In 1966, Rory formed the blues-rock trio Taste, a band that brought him international recognition before launching an incredibly successful solo career. Throughout the 1970s and beyond, he released a string of acclaimed albums, including Tattoo, Against the Grain, Calling Card, and the iconic live album Irish Tour ’74.

Known for his electrifying live performances, Rory built his career on relentless touring rather than chasing fame. His passion, humility and dedication to his craft earned him the admiration of audiences and fellow musicians alike. Guitar legends including Eric Clapton, Brian May, Johnny Marr, Slash and The Edge have all spoken of his influence on their own music.

Rory Gallagher wasn’t just one of Ireland’s greatest musicians – he became one of Cork’s most celebrated sons. Although born in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal, in 1948, Rory moved to Cork with his family as a young boy and it was here that his remarkable musical journey truly began. Growing up in Cork, Rory developed a lifelong passion for blues and rock ‘n’ roll. Inspired by artists such as Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley, he taught himself to play guitar and quickly earned a reputation as an extraordinary talent.
